how it works

This page briefly explains how the Shopify ShopCarbonNeutral app and the process of collecting and investing the fees work. Information on how to install the app can be found on the How to Install page.

The Greenwizz app is integrated in the normal shopping process. It provides an additional service to your customers during their purchase. This begins in the shopping cart, see the picture.

Our app adds a banner to the shopping cart screen that provides information to your customer on the carbon footprint of the products in the cart as well as the fee needed to compensate this carbon footprint with Greenwizz. The information is automatically updated when changes are made to the cart (adding or deleting products). This service does not cause any notable delay to the shopping process. 

With the opt-in box shown your customers can choose to make use of this service, contribute to lowering greenhouse gas emissions by a simple click. 

After they have opted in the product will be added to the cart (if this option is selected during installation, see how to install section) and the banner text will change to ask people if they want to receive additional information via e-mail. 

If they choose to be kept in the loop, Greenwizz will store their e-mail address and use it to provide your customers with an e-mail on the projects we invest in to compensate the carbon footprint of their purchase. Alternatively they can click on the information icon in the first screen for a link to our website. 

If they accept to be kept in the loop the banner text will change, see the picture.

If changes are made to the cart after opt-in, for example by adding a product we will inform your customer about the change in the cart and the impact on the carbon footprint and the compensation fee, see the picture. 

If they complete their shopping and proceed to the checkout to pay, they will see this screen with again the Greenwizz product included and the fee added to the total payable amount. 

So, what happens afterwards?

The money needs to be transferred to Greenwizz. We keep track of any transaction that includes compensation in our transaction database. Based on this data we send you an invoice for the compensation amount of the relevant transaction. This is done monthly. The invoice will be sent via e-mail with a payment link  

The compensation fee consists of 2 parts. It includes the money to compensate 100% of the carbon footprint as well as a small amount to cover for the Greenwizz service, this is 10% of the total fee amount paid.
